On a recent episode of his Phenomenally Retro podcast, AJ Styles discussed his help in producing the main event of the 7/21 edition of WWE NXT, which saw Tony D’Angelo defend the NXT Championship against Naraku in a street fight.
The former WWE Champion felt the match went “really, really well,” adding:
I’m one of those people that are still heavily involved in watching the match. So, while I was on the headset, I did not do a good job of saying anything other than [loudly reacting to the match]. I let somebody else handle that part of the producing part. But, yeah, man, we got together and I think we did a good job.
Styles gave praise to both competitors, noting that he really likes D’Angelo’s current character and how Naraku is someone who is able to turn it on and become his character once he’s performing.
The aftermath of the main event saw the arrival of Mike Santana, presumably looking to enter the NXT Championship scene after wrapping up his TNA run.
