Sami Zayn defended his Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event of WWE Raw on 7/6, though not in the manner he expected.
Early on in the show, Cody Rhodes was attacked by Gunther backstage, leading to the champion Zayn assuming he was simply not competing until Adam Pearce revealed that there would still be a championship match in Chicago.

The garage door opens, and the Second City Saint is standing there. CM Punk walks into the Allstate Arena as the crowd loudly cheers. Punk’s music hits, and he goes through the Gorilla Position past Michael “P.S.” Hayes, and makes his entrance.
The main event ultimately saw Punk defeat Zayn after landing a Helluva Kick followed by a GTS, winning the Undisputed WWE Championship in his first match since losing at the main event of WrestleMania 42.
Punk is now an eight-time world champion within WWE on a night of significance, just over twenty years after he made his WWE debut on the June 24, 2006 edition of ECW on Sci-Fi and nearly fifteen since winning the WWE Championship at the 2011 edition of Money in the Bank, a show that was also held at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
