Sami Zayn is the new Undisputed WWE Champion, having won title for a second time.
Zayn defeated CM Punk in the main event on Friday’s SmackDown to win the championship.
Below is an excerpt from Roy Nemer’s WWE SmackDown recap of how the title change went down.
Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae run to the outside of the ring. He gets on the ring apron and that distracts Punk. Zayn rolls Punk up for the cover but Punk kicks out. Zayn with the figure four leg lock but Punk grabs Zayn’s bad wrist. LeRae gets on the ring apron. Punk with the Anaconda Vice and Zayn is tapping out but the referee is distracted. Gargano grabs the title and gets in the ring. He goes to hit Punk with it but Punk with the GTS. The referee rolls Gargano to the outside of the ring. In comes Kevin Owens and he grabs the title. He goes to hit Zayn with it but Zayn moves out of the way and Owens accidentally hits Punk with it. Zayn with a low blow onto Owens. Zayn throws the title to the outside of the ring. Zayn with the Helluva Kick. He goes for the cover and gets the pin.
