Fighful Select has published a report on what was said to have been a confusing finish with the Undisputed Championship Match between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens on Friday’s SmackDown.
Late in the match, CM Punk came down and got involved, hitting Owens in the face/head with the title belt. Zayn then followed up with making the cover on Owens and he got his shoulder up after what appeared to have been the three count. However, the referee did not call for the bell, so the match continued on. Zayn eventually hit Owens with a Helluva Kick in the corner and, getting the actual pinfall to retain the title.

Fighful Select notes that according to WWE sources, Owens wasn’t supposed to kick out following the title belt shot to the face/head. The original plan called for the finish to end with the first pinfall. However, when the referee did not signal to the timekeeper for the bell, everyone involved had to improvise and go with a different finish.
