A new report from Fightful Select has provided clarity on the status of Rusev, who has been off WWE television since late July.
Speculation arose after the former WWE United States Champion’s match against Je’Von Evans, with some suggesting Rusev was unhappy and “stormed off” from ringside.
The report notes that his abrupt departure was related to a medical issue sustained during the bout, which saw Rusev land awkwardly on his neck during a spot and experiencing numbness in his hands
The referee reportedly asked whether the match needed to be stopped, but Rusev wanted to continue.
With his symptoms worsening as the bout went on, Rusev quickly left the ringside area, where he was believed to be placed in WWE’s concussion protcol as a precaution.
An undisclosed illness has further delayed his return, after being given a couple weeks away before returning to the Performance Center.
As of this writing Rusev is said to be awaiting medical clearing, with an expectation of making a return to television sometime in September.
