Raquel Rodriguez is the new WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
Rodriguez defeated Sol Ruca on Monday’s (7/27) episode of Raw, to become the new champion. Ruca initially won the title back on the May 31 Clash in Italy PLE when she defeated Becky Lynch.
Below is an excerpt from Alex Kahrs’ WWE Raw Recap of how the title change came about.
Raquel backs off as the ref checks on the champ, noticing the busted nose on Rodriguez as she cinches in a chinlock only for Ruca to fight her off. Sol has an opening and takes the challenger to the mat with a bulldog. Big knee strike by the champ, and she makes the cover for a close two count before Raquel kicks out. Rodriguez starts to fight back before getting caught on the top rope by Ruca, who lands a DDT from the turnbuckle for another nearfall.
Raquel gets back to her feet as Roxanne Perez comes running down for the interference. The ref intervenes to get her away, but Morgan trips up the champ allowing Raquel to roll her up…but Sol kicks out at two! Out comes IYO SKY to even the numbers out, but gets intercepted by the Women’s World Champion. they go at it until Liv gets sent into the ring post by SKY, who follows up with a Bullet Train Attack on the apron.
Meanwhile, Roxanne catches Ruca in the corner while the ref is distracted, and this allows Raquel to drop the champ with a Tejana Bomb for the win!
