Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select is reporting there is apparent interest within AEW in potentially signing Sheamus. His contract with WWE is reportedly set to expire October 1.

Furthermore, the report also notes interest apparently is not limited to those within AEW making personnel decisions, but also support from some talents in the locker room in favor of Sheamus joining the company. reportedly in favor of Sheamus joining the promotion.

It was reported back on July 5, Sheamus “swiftly rejected” a restructured contract with a reduction in pay and chose free agency instead of taking the new contract. The next day, Sheamus appeared on the alumni section of WWE’s website.

Sheamus first signed a developmental deal with WWE in October 2006, wrestling under the name of Sheamus O’Shaunessy. He made his debut on the June 30, 2009, episode of ECW, under the name Sheamus, dropping the O’Shaunessy last name, and beat local competitor Oliver John in a squash match.

The 48-year-old Sheamus underwent shoulder surgery this past December. His last match was on the November 17 WWE Raw, where he teamed up with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to win over Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh.

During his almost 19-year tenure with WWE, he held the WWE Championship three times, the World Heavyweight Championship once, the United States Championship three times, and is a five-time Tag Team Champion. He is also a 2010 King of the Ring winner, 2012 Royal Rumble winner, and 2015 Money in the Bank winner.
