Vince McMahon and Jim Ross welcome us to the show. Tonight, we’ll have a No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal. The winner will face Shawn Michaels for the WWF Championship on the Raw after SummerSlam.
Jerry “The King” Lawler makes his way to the ring. Lawler has a brown paper bag with a bottle of Jim Beam in it. Lawler gets in the ring and says everyone knows that Jake “The Snake” Roberts is a slobbering drunk. Ever since Roberts came out here on television and tried to air his dirty laundry, he’s been exposing him for what he really is: a big hypocrite. Lawler says he knows Roberts is watching right now. Instead of going on TV and telling everyone about his past drug problems, Roberts can write a tell-all autobiography. It can be titled, “Who the Hell is Gonna Buy This?”
Replay: Eight days ago on WWF Superstars, Aldo Montoya scored an upset victory over Lawler with Jake Roberts’ DDT.
Aldo Montoya makes his entrance. Lawler says he’s got Jake Roberts’ actual partner. Lawler produces a bottle of Jim Beam. Lawler says he’s going to do commentary while he wrestles.
Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Aldo Montoya

The bell rings, and Lawler says that Jake Roberts thinks Beethoven’s Fifth is a bottle. Lawler wants Montoya to tell Roberts what happened to him at the hands of the King. Lawler puts the microphone on the mat. Montoya goes for it, but Lawler kicks him. Lawler strikes away at him before hitting a vertical suplex. Lawler laughs and sends him into the ropes, but Montoya takes him down with an uppercut. Montoya sends Lawler into the corner and dropkicks him down. Montoya punches Lawler down and goes to the top rope. Montoya comes off the top rope with a flying punch. Montoya sets up for a DDT, but Lawler slides out and hugs the referee to protect himself. Montoya pulls Lawler off the referee and hits a back body drop. Montoya punches Lawler into the corner and does the ten punches. Lawler is stumbling around. Montoya sends him into the ropes and lowers his head, but Lawler puts the brakes on and hits a Piledriver. Lawler hits him with a second Piledriver and picks up the victory.
Winner by Pinfall: Jerry “The King” Lawler
Lawler grabs Montoya’s head and throws him toward the apron. Lawler goes to the ringside area and grabs the bottle of Jim Beam. Lawler unscrews the cap, tells Jake Roberts not to get jealous, and pours the whiskey down his throat! Montoya spits it out and gags, his throat burning from the hard liquor. WWF officials run down to get Lawler away, but he keeps pouring more into Montoya’s mouth. Montoya looks sick and falls to the floor.
Mike’s Thoughts: Fun little squash match for Jerry “The King” Lawler over the supremely lame gimmick of Aldo Montoya. That line about Jake Roberts thinking Beethoven’s Fifth was a bottle had me rolling. Roberts had no-showed the In Your House: International Incident event, which happened the night before this long television taping, so Montoya had to be a stand-in for him to keep the feud with Lawler going. They haven’t done much to establish Montoya as Roberts’ protégé other than saying it a few times on television. The spot with the whiskey being poured down Montoya’s throat at the end looked rough. There is a very famous whiskey spot coming up in this feud with Roberts and Lawler. Whether that was actually Jim Beam or a safer substitute with Montoya, the visual was rough.

Tag Team Match
The New Rockers (Marty Jannetty and Leif Cassidy) vs. The Bodydonnas (Skip and Zip)

As the Bodydonnas make their entrance, the New Rockers hide by the Raw stage and attack them from behind. The New Rockers get Zip into the ring and hit a double-team front suplex onto the top rope. The match has started. Cassidy starts stomping away at Zip. Marty Jannetty tags in. The New Rockers send Zip into the ropes, but he kicks Cassidy and rolls Jannetty up, but Cassidy breaks up the pin. Skip runs in and attacks Jannetty. Cassidy punches Zip down and uppercuts him. The referee regains order, but The New Rockers got a few cheap shots in on Zip. Zip sends Jannetty into the ropes, but Cassidy grabs Jannetty and holds him, causing Zip to miss a dropkick. Jannetty picks up a two-count.
Video: We go backstage and see Faarooq Asaad and Sunny on split-screen. Vince McMahon says Asaad will take on Skip next week on Raw. Sunny says the key is she used to manage Skip, but she’s got a new man now. Next week, her new man will take on her first man. Sunny doesn’t care what anybody thinks. She’s getting what she wants. Faarooq Asaad will teach everyone that Skip can’t measure up. Asaad says it doesn’t make a difference if it’s Skip or Zip. It doesn’t matter the color or the weight. He’s from a fighting background. You’re either a hunter or prey. Asaad has never been prey and isn’t about to start now. Asaad says the true king of the jungle is the tiger. The lion needs a pack of females to fight for it. The tiger, from birth, fends for itself and is a maneater, like him.
Back to this match, the Bodydonnas double-team Cassidy for a two-count. Zip hits Cassidy with an atomic drop, and Jannetty blind tags in. Zip cuts Jannetty off and tags Skip in. Skip comes off the top rope with a club to Jannetty’s back. Skip wrenches Jannetty’s arm and sends him to the corner. Jannetty quickly hits a back elbow as Sunny charges, goes to the second rope, and hits a diving flipping cutter.
Split-Screen: On one side, WWF Tag Team Champions The Smoking Gunns are watching this match. On the other side of the screen, The Godwinns are watching.
Skip comes back and hits a clothesline before going to the top rope. Skip hits a diving headbutt. 1… 2… Cassidy breaks it up. Jannetty ducks a right hand and goes for a back suplex, but Skip flips through. Skip goes for a hurricanrana, but Cassidy grabs him and snaps him off the top rope. Jannetty sends Skip to the floor. Zip goes after Jannetty, but the referee holds him back. Cassidy attacks Skip at ringside and hits a swinging neckbreaker. Jannetty continues to taunt Zip to distract the referee, allowing Cassidy to continue attacking him. Skip is rolled into the ring, and Jannetty picks up a two-count.
Cassidy tags in as Jannetty sends Skip to the corner. Jannetty whips Cassidy into Skip before clotheslining him down. Cassidy picks up a two-count. Cassidy grinds Skip’s face into the mat and does a goofy dance before slapping him in the back of the head. Skip fights back at Cassidy, but Cassidy hits a snapmare and drops a leg for a two-count. Cassidy bounces Skip off Jannetty’s boot and tags him in. Jannetty punches Skip down and sends him to the corner before hitting a back elbow. Jannetty does a terrible dance as the crowd boos.
Video: WWF President Gorilla Monsoon is shown with Clarence Mason, informing him that he’s reluctantly reinstating his client back into service in the WWF. His client will be under scrutiny from all of the WWF and Monsoon, personally. We don’t see who the person is, but Vince McMahon says the man will be in action next week.
Getting back to this match, Cassidy pulls Skip down and stomps him. Cassidy whips him HARD into the opposite corner, and Skip collapses. Skip mana
