Fightful Select is reporting several WWE Superstars, including some “prominent names”, have made it clear they do not want to participate in Crown Jewel due to the potential dangers associated with the trip.
Fightful Select notes one talent indicated that even some wrestlers currently scheduled to appear at the November 7 premium live event have privately expressed concerns to WWE officials. It was said those individuals were reportedly assured that safety precautions would be a top priority throughout the trip.
The report adds that WWE is also planning to travel to Saudi Arabi with a significantly smaller crew than usual. WWE reportedly intends to limit the number of wrestlers making the trip to the country, along with very few talents who are not booked for the event expected to travel.
It was announced this past week, that Crown Jewel would be moved from Riyadh Season Stadium at KAFD (King Abdullah Financial District), to The Venue (ANB Arena). This arena is indoors, and can seat up to 25,000 as compared to the Riyadh Season Stadium at KAFD, which is an outdoor venue with over 70,000 for a seating capacity.
According to a report this past Thursday from Business Insurance, about 86 percent of the scheduled flights at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport were canceled between October 8 and 25 due to Houthi rebel attacks on Saudi Arabia’s airports, ports and oil facilities. It was also noted these attacks have prompted international airlines to suspend services to the Saudi capital through November and that several major airports across the kingdom also reported severe disruption.
Crown Jewel is set to air live on the ESPN Unlimited app in the United States and on Netflix internationally, beginning at 12:00 pm ET/9:00 am PT.
