Adam Glyn of the Adam’s Apple podcast recently caught up with Sheamus at an airport
When Sheamus told Glyn that going forward he is going by S. Farrelly and said that some circumstances came with WWE that he can’t really discuss.
“Some circumstances came up. I can’t really talk about it, obviously. But, 19 years is a long time, a good crack. I left Ireland in 07, so I haven’t really had the luxury to go home and see my family and see my friends. The last couple weeks now I’ve had a chance to kind of restructure that and get back and catch up on birthdays and missed opportunities. I got a nephew and niece back home, Theo and Sophia. Love the kids and I get to see them more now. They’re awesome. Six and four.”
Sheamus “swiftly rejected” a restructured contract with a reduction in pay and chose free agency instead of taking the new contract. The next day, Sheamus appeared on the alumni section of WWE’s website.
Sheamus first signed a developmental deal with WWE in October 2006, wrestling under the name of Sheamus O’Shaunessy. He made his debut on the June 30, 2009, episode of ECW, under the name Sheamus, dropping the O’Shaunessy last name, and beat local competitor Oliver John in a squash match.
The 48-year-old Sheamus underwent shoulder surgery this past December. His last match was on the November 17 WWE Raw, where he teamed up with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to win over Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh.
During his almost 19-year tenure with WWE, he held the WWE Championship three times, the World Heavyweight Championship once, the United States Championship three times, and is a five-time Tag Team Champion. He is also a 2010 King of the Ring winner, 2012 Royal Rumble winner, and 2015 Money in the Bank winner.
