WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported that WWE’s “day-to-day decision makers” had less than a stellar reaction to how much of Saturday Night’s Main Event was dedicated to the New York Knicks on July 18.
It was noted that those spoken to understood the significance of the team winning their first NBA championship in 53 years, but it was felt internally that the level of content related to the franchse went further than many would have wanted, with some being not “exactly enthusiastic” over the situation in Madison Square Garden.
The franchise’s involvement saw Karl-Anthony Towns get involved in a No Disqualifications match between Danhausen and JD McDonagh, emerging from a “cloning machine” before chokeslamming McDonagh and putting Dominik Mysterio through a table.
The show’s closing angle saw Jalen Brunson acknowledged by Roman Reigns, before the pair were interrupted by Seth Rollins and Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton.
Brunson and Reigns celebrated in the ring after fending off their foes, standing alongside the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship trophy.
