Fightful Select is reporting that Sheamus is set to depart WWE after turning down a contract extension. The report is not clear as to when Sheamus’ deal is up, but the publication notes they were told his contract expires soon.
Fightful Select adds that WWE had previously approached Sheamus amount a restructured contract, which is was said to have “swiftly rejected.”
Sheamus first signed a developmental deal with WWE in October 2006, wrestling under the the name of Sheamus O’Shaunessy. He made his debut on the June 30, 2009 episode of ECW, under the name of Sheamus, dropping the O’Shaunessy last name, where he beat local competitor Oliver John in a squash match.
The 48-year old Sheamus underwent shoulder surgery this past December. His last match was on the November 17 WWE Raw, where he teamed up with John Cena and Rey Mysterio, in a win over the Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh.
During his 19-year tenure with WWE, held the WWE Championship three-times, the World Heavyweight Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship one-time, the United States Championship three-times and is a five-time Tag Team Champion. He is also a 2010 King of the Ring winner, 2012 Royal Rumble winner and 2015 Money in the Bank winner.
Sheamus is under the standard 90-day no-compete clause.
On social media, he is now going by S. Farrelly.
