“The World Wrestling Federation: for over fifty years, the revolutionary force in sports entertainment.” The WWF video leads us into the show.

Video: The images of Bret Hart’s departure at WrestleMania XII are still burned in our memories. For six months, the Hitman has carried the pain of leaving his title, fans, and legacy. Rumors have persisted about his future. Tonight, we anxiously await what he has to say. Also, Mr. Perfect returns to action against Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Two great champions return tonight on Monday Night Raw!

Video: The Raw video plays.

We go live into the War Memorial Coliseum to see a big fireworks display. Sycho Sid’s music hits, and he’ll kick the show off with a match. Sid is going on to Madison Square Garden at Survivor Series to battle Shawn Michaels for the WWF Championship.

Vince McMahon and Jerry “The King” Lawler welcome us to the show. Lawler excitedly says that Bret “Hitman” Hart will announce his retirement tonight on Raw. McMahon is skeptical.

Sycho Sid vs. WWF Tag Team Champion Owen Hart w/ Clarence Mason

Referee: Earl Hebner

The bell rings, and a “Sid” chant fires up. The crowd in Fort Wayne loves the No. 1 Contender for the WWF Championship. They lock up, and Sid powers Hart down. Hart tells the referee that Sid pulled his hair, but the referee doesn’t believe him. They lock up, and Sid shoves him down again. Hart kips up, so Sid grabs him by the throat and shoves him over the top rope before posing. Hart is furious and says he’s going to leave. Clarence Mason convinces Hart to return to the match. Hart goes to the top rope and jumps, but Sid punches him in the midsection out of mid-air. Sid sends Hart into the ropes, but Hart catches him with a facebuster. Hart quickly heads to the top rope and hits a missile dropkick. Sid pops up, so Hart headbutts him and clotheslines him over the top rope. The crowd loudly boos.

The British Bulldog runs down and grabs Sid at ringside. Sid punches Bulldog down on the floor before grabbing him by the throat. Hart goes outside and hits Sid with a chop block.

Video: The WWF Superstar Line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 1-900-737-4WWF. On Option 6, Jim Ross gives his “Ross Report” to say why Sid will win the WWF Championship at the Survivor Series.

Back from the break, Hart is viciously taking it to Sid’s injured leg. Hart snaps his leg off the ring post. The referee admonishes Hart, but Hart snaps Sid’s leg off the ring post again. Hart gets in the ring and distracts the referee as Bulldog grabs Sid’s leg and snaps it off the post. Hart drags Sid into the ring and jumps on his leg. Hart stomps away at Sid’s leg before the referee backs him up. Bulldog gets a few cheap shots in on the leg. Hart puts Sid’s leg on the middle rope and kicks it. The crowd chants for Sid. Hart headbutts Sid and hits the ropes for a running crossbody block, but Sid catches him and slams him down. Sid goes for a leg drop, but Hart moves. Hart snaps Sid’s leg off the mat before jumping onto it. Hart applies a deathlock. Sid’s shoulders are down for a two-count.

Hart sets up for a Sharpshooter, but Sid kicks him away. Hart hits a basement dropkick and continues to attack Sid’s leg. Hart headbutts Sid twice before punching him. Sid responds with some slaps to the face, but Hart cuts him off by raking the eyes. Hart ducks a clothesline, but Sid quickly goozles him and hits a chokeslam! Sid signals for the end as the crowd cheers loudly. Sid sets up for a Powerbomb, but Bulldog gets in the ring and clotheslines him down.

Winner by Disqualification: Sycho Sid

The WWF Tag Team Champions double-team Sid until WWF Champion Shawn Michaels runs down to the ring for the save. Michaels takes it to the Bulldog before sending him over the top rope. Sid easily handled Hart. Bulldog and Hart retreat with Mason.

Sid talks with Michaels in the ring and says he didn’t need his help. Michaels tries to talk some sense into him before walking off on him.

Mike’s Thoughts: Not a great match with a weak finish. Owen Hart tried his best, but Sycho Sid wasn’t locked in for this match. Slow, clunky bumps, lackadaisical selling, but it didn’t matter. The crowd was into everything he was doing. While the finish wasn’t great, you can see they’re using a classic storyline to build a face-vs.-face match for a pay-per-view. They’ll have the two opponents team up, have a misunderstanding, and get into it before the big event. At least that’s what seems to be happening here. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Tag Match in the weeks to come with Shawn Michaels and Sycho Sid taking on Owen Hart and The British Bulldog.

Photos: We see photos of the Buried Alive Match between The Undertaker and Mankind last night at In Your House: Buried Alive. Undertaker buried Mankind alive to win the match, but he was soon attacked by a mysterious masked man named The Executioner. Mankind, The Executioner, and several other wrestlers teamed up to bury The Undertaker alive. The grave was struck by lightning, and The Undertaker’s hand emerged as the show ended.

Jim Ross joins commentary. Vince McMahon says Ross promised to deliver Bret Hart and wants to know what he’s going to say. Ross says McMahon will find out and will be interested.

Tag Team Match
The Smoking Gunns (Bart Gunn and Billy Gunn) vs. The Godwinns (Henry O. Godwinn and Phinneas I. Godwinn) w/ Hillbilly Jim

Referee: Jack Doan

The bell rings, and The Godwinns take their time handing off the piglets they brought to the ringside. Hillbilly Jim does a little jig in the ring to stall some more. Finally, Bart Gunn and Phinneas I. Godwinn lock up. They tussle around the ropes for position before Bart backs up. They lock up, and Bart has Phinneas pressed against the ropes before they release. They lock up a third time, and Phinneas wrenches the arm. Bart turns it on him and applies a side headlock. Phinneas slides out and applies a hammerlock, but Bart elbows him in the face before hitting a scoop slam. Billy Gunn tags in as we go to commercials.

-Commercial Break-

Back from the break, Phinneas applies a side headlock to Bart. Bart pushes him into the ropes and punches him in the midsection before sending him into the ropes. Bart drops down, and Billy pulls the top rope down to get Phinneas out of the ring. Billy angrily stomps Phinneas as the referee tries to keep Henry O. Godwinn back. Billy gets Phinneas in the ring, and Bart picks up a two-count. Billy tags in as Bart sends Phinneas to the corner. Billy jumps off Bart’s back for an avalanche, but Phinneas avoids it.

Henry and Bart tag in. Henry punches away at Bart, sending him into the ropes for a back elbow, then a clothesline. Henry sends Bart back into the ropes for a scoop powerslam. 1… Billy breaks it up. Phinneas punches Billy out of the ring. The Godwinns send Bart into the ropes, knocking him into Billy. Henry hits Bart with the Slop Drop for the win.

Winners by Pinfall: The Godwinns

Billy Gunn is irate and yells at his brother, Bart. Vince McMahon says neither of these Tag Teams is likely to be inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame.

Mike’s Thoughts: Just a match with The Godwinns defeating The Smoking Gunns. It’s clear that The Smoking Gunns are soon to be no more. It’s funny that Vince McMahon said that neither team is likely to make it to the Hall of Fame, but Billy Gunn certainly did.

Video: On Saturday, November 16, the WWF Hall of Fame banquet will occur. The inductees into the Class of 1996 will be Pat Patterson, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, and Vincent J. McMahon.
